Schedule Part 1

So I need a permanent, durable schedule.  I’m willing to work about 50 hours a week; the rest of the time is mine.  I’m not willing to go beyond that these days because I think that additional work may have not merely diminishing returns but negative returns.

Plus the best work I’ve done in my life has come in a “flow state.” I am working to build a new business, and I have other duties to old clients that helped me support the business.

Leverage League is the “new” thing.  I am running sales and demand gen for great tech agencies and  a few other companiess.  I have a core client that ha daily effort from me.  I am building a team (if you know me come find me).

Decide what your inputs are.

I have a lot to fit into my schedule.

  1. Family- My kids need me and I we’re in a weird cycle right now that I don’t want to continue.  I have to really push them to get them to do what used to be effortless.  This will also include keeping the house in reasonable shape and doing special projects, celebrating my wife and the rest.
  2. Fitness- Gotta do a vastly better job of this.  This includes cooking food and making sure that I maintain my energy level.
  3. House- We”re building a house and this will consume 10 hours a week and some mental energy thinking through things.
  4. Reading- I have to read more than I am and I have to make sure that I stay in tune.  I have fallen from reading 10 hours a week to 2 hours a week.
  5. Work- Function: I need to be and stay organized at work.  Since I have other awesome people counting on me, I need to deliver better than I have been.

I’ll build a schedule that supports this, starting with fitness and work.

The Work

Content Creation:
35% of my time in content creation (and all that that entails.)  This will include creating the documents and policies we need to run the business.    (~20 hours a week, 3 hours a day).  This is up from zero hours.

Prospecting: 20% of my time spent is spent prospecting and doing top of funnel work.  This is something I can give up to automation eventually, but I want to generate an abundance of leads.  (~11-12 hours a week, 2 hours a day)

Strategy: 10% of my time is spent on strategy & systems (~5 hours weekly)  This includes things like hiring/firing, interviewing, attracting good candidates.

Follow Up: 10% of my time is spent on follow up and mid-late funnel work (~5 hours weekly).  This will go back to prospecting if I don’t have anyone to follow up with.

Delivery: 25% of my time is spent delivering for my clients.

Now there is some overlap between these things: an activity can be both “creating content” and “building systems”.  Writing a “jobs” post can do that.

Making this Specific

We want to make this a lot more specific than it’s been in the recent past. A cornerstone habit will be going to bed on time so I can get up on time.

Fitness & Nutrition:

3 days of weights, 3 days of cardio.  Saturday is rest.  We’re using the “stronglifts” program to track so the work is “set it and forget it. I’m sure I’m going to be quite sore for 45-60 days.

I’ve got a whole plan on nutrition: I’m cutting out almost everything.  I went over 250 days without alcohol of any kind and that was more good than bad; I can add sweets, fast food and a lot to my list and wind up with more energy.

Monday– Weights (1 mile warm up run, 20 minutes cooldown) | Fast 21/3  || 1800 Clean Cals
Tuesday: Tempo Training & Yoga  | Fast 18/6  | 2100 Cals
Wednesday: Weights  | Fast  21/3 || 2100 Cals
Thursday: HITT | Fast 16/8 || 1800 Cals
Friday: Weights &  Yoga | Fast 21/3
Saturday: Steady State Recovery (70 minutes)

This means I need to be up at 5 daily, generally working at 7:30, working till 5:30 and then done.

The Schedule

Monday- Friday  || Sat and sun are similar.
General Rules:

If the time is blue it can be moved to start earlier if I’m done at the gym.

Time in between is used for focus.

Red: Unavailable in Calendly.
Green = Available, but…that time needs to be made up.
Black: Available.

5:00- Wake Up (Quick Routine).
5:30- At Gym (100% of the time)
7:30- Back From Gym (Showered & Ready)
7:30-9:30 Support and grind on Thanks
9:30-11 Front Line Prospecting
11-11:30 Standup OR  Planning of Content
11:30-1:30: MW: Content Creation TTh: Sales Follow Up
1:30-2:15 Nap/Lunch.
2-15-4pm: TTH: Content Creation MW: Sales Follow up
4-5:30 Flex (shift things that got moved, can go home guilt free if everything is done)
5:30 meet with kids / family.
6:30 Prep Dinner & household  chores
7p: Eat Dinner, Family Standup
8pm: Read / Relax
10pm Bedtime Routine

This is a schedule that’s tough but sustainable.  If it’s done right I can leave work without hassle or guilt around 7pm.

The only things I might (ultimately) switch is when I’m doing prospecting vs. Content creation.  There is a lot I want to produce, do and write and I might do that before prospecting, but I have to (re)build the prospecting habit now.

I will get a little more granular on the prospecting schedule ; there are activities like phone, email ,TOF, scrolling that I need to be doing regularly and some more still that can be somewhat outsourced.
